In short: Receipt Snap has no account and no server. Your receipt photos and the text read from them are processed on your phone and never uploaded anywhere. The only thing that leaves your device is your advertising identifier, sent to Google to show ads.
What stays on your device
Everything Receipt Snap does with a receipt happens on your phone and stays there:
- The receipt photo, compressed and stored as a JPEG
- The merchant, date, total, tax and currency read from it
- Categories, notes and export state, stored in a local database
- Your consent choice and app settings
Text recognition runs on the device through Google's ML Kit, using a recognition model bundled inside the app — the receipt image and the text extracted from it are never sent anywhere. We cannot see any of it. Settings → Delete every receipt and photoclears all of it at any time, photographs included. Uninstalling the app removes it too.
What leaves your device
| What | When | Who receives it |
|---|---|---|
| Advertising identifier | While the app is open and showing ads | Google, through the Google Mobile Ads SDK |
That is the only data Receipt Snap collects and shares, and the only purpose is advertising. Your receipt images, the merchant names and amounts on them, and anything else you enter are never transmitted — the app makes no network requests of its own. The only outbound traffic comes from the Google Mobile Ads SDK, the consent flow described below, and the app store's purchase system when you buy Pro.
Advertising
The free version shows an ad in the receipt history list — never on the camera, crop or confirmation screens. To do this, Google's Mobile Ads SDK collects your device's advertising identifier. Where local law requires it, including the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, a Google-certified consent management platform asks for your consent before the ads SDK initialises. Buying Pro removes ads entirely.
How Google uses this data is described in Google's privacy policy.
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Internet | Used by the ad SDK, the consent flow and the app store's purchase system. |
| Advertising ID (Android 13+) | Required by Google Mobile Ads to serve and measure ads. |
Receipt Snap does not request the camera permission. Capturing a receipt opens your phone's own camera app through the system picker, which needs no permission from Receipt Snap itself. There is no location permission and no location data.
Purchases
Purchases are handled entirely by Apple or Google. Receipt Snap receives only whether a purchase exists. We never see your payment details.
Backup, restore and export
Backing up creates a single file holding your database and receipt images, and restoring reads one back — both move through your phone's own file picker, to wherever you choose. We never see or receive that file. Exporting produces a CSV you share from your own device, wherever you pick.
Children
Receipt Snap is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The app has no account system and asks for no personal details.
Deleting your data
There is no account to delete. Settings → Delete every receipt and photo erases every receipt and photograph from the device. Uninstalling the app does the same. There is no data on a server to request or erase, because there are no servers.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at this address with an updated date.
